What is Myrcene?

Monday, Apr 5, 2021

Another terpene that’s extremely prevalent in the world of cannabis is Myrcene. It’s known to produce an earthy scent that contributes robust notes of balsam, which are often a little spicy and herbaceous. Myrcene has been used throughout history as an ingredient in a variety of herbal medicines, primarily in natural sleep aids. It’s also found in parsley, lemongrass, hops, and mangos.

OG Kush, Granddaddy Purple, and Grape Pie are all strains of cannabis that feature Myrcene as one of their dominant terpenes. These cultivars’ effects, along with Myrcene’s historical use in sleep aids and other herbal remedies, are key evidence of this terpene’s calming qualities. Myrcene is definitely one of the most effective terpenes for promoting relaxation.

Keep an eye out for strains that contain a lot of Myrcene when looking for batches to enjoy later in the day or before bedtime. As always there will be exceptions to this rule, so still make sure to look at the rest of a cultivar’s dominant terpenes too.
