How do we bond rosin to coconut oil and why do we do it?

In the edible world there are a wide variety of methods that can be used to infuse food with cannabis. Many involve chemical solvents, such as butane or ethanol. These methods can leave behind trace amounts of the chemical that is used, and often result in an end product missing some or most of the starting material’s original cannabinoid and terpene content. To retain as many of these natural features as possible and avoid unnecessary chemical solvents, at Dialed In we bond our rosin with organic, virgin, cold pressed coconut oil before infusing our gummies.

We believe organic coconut oil is the ideal bonding agent for edibles because it’s all-natural, has many health benefits, and is already used often in cooking. These qualities make it one of the healthiest options to use as an ingredient in infused products.

But why bond rosin to coconut oil? It allows for easier absorption and provides us with a nice homogeneous gummy mix that we can pour into our molds. Cannabinoids are also lipophilic; meaning they can be broken down by fats and lipids. The fats and lipids that are found in coconut oil bond with rosin easily because of this. After bonding, the homogenous mixture of rosin and coconut oil is used in our sous vide cooking process. This allows us to translate a strain’s cannabinoids and terpene content into gummy form for all of us to enjoy.
